SCAD + THE MILL
Shadow work
Time crunch got us for last week, so we had a hard time with exporting a shadow, desipite all of the troubles I tried to match the provided lighting to the plate we had on the background. We also had problems with our rendering and had to render in a low quality that what we have set up with the project which cause a problem with our smoke. So this is what I am doing to keep the shadow as best as I can with the provided shadow. There should be a new shadow soon with our next render for next week.
01
Given shadow render
The shadow I got was to harsh for the first composite, because of the rendering problems I mentioned before, so I had to fix it and matched acordingly using Nuke. The first step I took was softening the shadow.
02
Softening the shadow
So I tried to soften the shadow edges and this is as close as I could get to the matching shadow I have as an example. I did this by rotoing the boarder and using feather to give the feeling of softenes and better integration.
03
Color matching
The next step is to color match the shadow to the shadows we see in the background plates and intergrating it so it looks like it is not as perfect as we get it from the Maya render.
