Color grading
This weekend, I worked on color grading the short film. I am prioritizing the color grade of the last to scenes in order to make the film more cohesive, this has been a new interesting challenge for me because I am learning how to color grade images in Da Vinci. Using different nodes and color correction tools outside of nuke have allowed me to learn more about color matching and grading that I have imagined.
First of all I am color grading the general image, and getting it from cold tones to warm tones to match the previous scenes. While I was doing that another professor passed by my station and gave me two options on how to archieve the color grading, one of them is to build up the sunset and embrace time passing, and the second one is two match the two last shots to have a more yellow sunset. I was already working on the second option so I decided to continue with that route, but my idea is if I have time I will work on developing the second option, which could be an interesting development for the campain. Doing this I learned how important color grading is when telling a story.
While color grading I discovered I am having a problem and it is that I am having a little bit of a red border around the hat of the main character and a little bit on the hand during the close up when you see the movement on them, so I am trying to figure out why is this happening. Also I am trying to separate the elements and color grade the foreground from the background to embrace all elements in the shoot, with a key node, but since the shirt is white and it is reflecting a lot of colors, I am not able to take a completely clean matte, so I might have to roto the elements to keep them separate, or look for another solution.
