SCAD + THE MILL
Hero shot 2
A week full of challenges
Working on this plate was a challenge this week. My teammates had multiple problems with rendering because the render farm was down. Due to this situation, I had only two hours to do a quick slap comp together. Also, we had a problem with the rendering of the condensation, which looks weird when rendered alone, so the FX artists had to re-render it separately and with the can to see how it could be composited with the other elements in the plate.
The alpha of the condensation had a full opacity, and the values of the elements were not correct, so when composited, it would look super weird. Also, the artist rendered with the can so we can see the condensation, but there is a strange blue light in that render that does not match the rest of the composite. And they cannot reflect on the things around them, like the coins. I used a technique to lower the opacity of the elements, which was not perfect, and that is why the artist re-rendered, but the rerender also looked like it did not belong with the rest of the composite. So, the colors of the plate look odd on the composite and the plate we presented this week to The Mill. So, in this blog, I decided to add another attempt on what I could do with the first condensation provided to me, and also so you can see how the composite looks without this condensation and the correct lighting.
Down there is also my node tree and how I tried to manage all of the elements because this is a CGI-only shot, and this is my first time managing these elements.
