SCAD + THE MILL
Cryptomattes + AOVs
Discovering new tools sometimes can feel overwhelming, but as a compositor it comes with the job description. Cryptomattes are a tool that allows you to have complete control over your object, materials and all of the elements inside CGI. The crytomattes allows you to have complete control while compositing. One of the most exciting thing about this week was learning the importance of having control of most of the things as a compositor, this makes integration better, because you can work with highlights and color lights differently (if needed). I also learned that is better to start Color correcting the object as a general element, and then start changing the small things later.
Reading documentation and asking professors about it can also help reasearch and evolving your project to make it better. I read about cryptomattes in the foundry website on how to use them correctly inside nuke, this was one of the most useful websites.

With the help of my Team and professor Gaynors guide lines we could incorporate this elements into our composite, that allowed us to enhance the materias, lighting and color correction. Playing with the highlights help us adress some of the problems we are having as a team, such as the smoke, and discover that some others need to be fixed from rendering like the coin higlights.
AOVs also give you control about all of the elements inside the compositing, that go further from just a material, you can correct direct or indirect volume or specularity. This elements are even more specific and help you get more control while compositing, which help us embrace the smoke even more inside the compositing. I discover a lot about AVOs in the book Digital Compositing for Film and Video: Production Workflows and Techniques. And also researching documentation.
